Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Tasting

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father, Giacomo, at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernists and traditionalists in Barolo was at its height. Claudio chose a third path, often described as "radical traditionalism". His wines are renowned for being impressively approachable in their youth, while continuing to improve with age. Claudio represents the fifth generation of the Fenocchio family, crafting elegant, authentic Barolos that capture the spirit of his vineyards. Yet he does not rest on his laurels, continually pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation while honouring his family legacy. In October of 2014, The New York Times rated Fenocchio in second position in a tasting of 2010 Barolos – coming behind only legendary revolutionary Barolo producer, the late Elio Altare . Claudio now manages 14 hectares of vineyards with vines in the cru’s of Cannubi, Villero and the Bussia of Monforte.
